Abstract Submission

The deadline for abstract submission is 23:59 UTC on Thursday 3rd October (i.e. before 4th October). After this date abstracts will not be considered. Delegates will be notified in early October, via e-mail, regarding acceptance of their abstracts.

To submit an abstract, please first register as an attendee. Once you have done so, you will find a link in your registration email, taking you to a personalised abstract submission area. Please follow that link to submit your abstract.

General guidance

Abstracts are limited to 200 words in length. Abstracts that are not formatted correctly according to the forms below will not be considered.

Delegates may submit up to three abstracts for which they are first author/presenting author. If submitting two or three abstracts, only one is permitted to be an oral presentation. All presentations are required to be in English.

Abstract creation and review

In reviewing submitted abstracts, the abstract review panel will take into consideration how developed the research is and will also consider career stage in allocating presentation slots. If oral presentations are oversubscribed, we may offer you the option to present a poster instead. For general guidance on composing your abstract, we recommend this resource: https://fourwaves.com/blog/how-to-write-an-abstract-for-a-conference/.

International delegates and visas

For international delegates who require visas to enter Germany, please contact us at <annualmeeting2024@palass.org>, so that we can provide a formal letter of invitation from the conference organisers (if required) and a decision on your abstract in a timely manner.

Student prizes

Eligibility of presenters for President's and Council Prizes: The President's and Council Prizes are awarded for the best talk and poster, respectively, at the Annual Meeting. All student members of the Palaeontological Association, and all members of the Association who are early career stage researchers, i.e. those within one calendar year of the award of a higher degree (PhD or MSc) are eligible for consideration for these awards.

Oral presentations

Oral presentations (talks) will be allocated 15 minutes in total, and you should prepare your talk to allow for 3 minutes of questions and switching between speakers.

Poster presentations

A dedicated poster session will take place on Wednesday December 11th. Posters will be displayed in A0 portrait format. Please note that poster presentations that are eligible for student prizes will need to be submitted to the judging panel approximately one week in advance of the conference. Further details will be communicated to eligible candidates via email.

If you do not wish for content from your poster or talk (or specific slides/sections therein) to be shared electronically or on social media, please use the PalAss social media symbols in your presentation.

Research ethics

All research presented at the meeting should abide by policies outlined on the page Palaeontological Association Publication Policies and Ethics. For further details on the Palaeontological Assocation's stance, please see the article in Newsletter 108, "Palaeontology and Papers in Palaeontology – policies, ethics and the way we operate".
